UK - High street giant Primark has introduced a range of jeans for disabled ex soldiers. The jeans are available with Left, Right or Both legs shortened to cater for the types  injuries caused by Improvised Explosive Devices (IED's) in Afghanistan or Iraq.

The Bastard's team believes that this is a first for any UK high street retailer. Normally shops like to pretend that the disabled do not exist. More that that most retailers place the goods in rows that are too narrow for a person in a wheel chair to get through.

Shops like Tesco's that now do the night jobs, re stocking the shelves, during normal retail hours, this saving on wages bill. Fine if you are a Tesco's shareholder, but if your in a wheel chair it is a nightmare because the shelf fillers, and the trolleys with the new stock in are always in the way.

Marks and Spencer's on the other hand opt for the narrow isles to keep the disabled out of their stores. Their prices would have the same effect too, even if Marks and Spencer's have their clothes made in some of the same factory's as Primark.

2. On that Terry I totally agree - it is totally unacceptable for major retail chains to use slave (child) labour in their suppliers factory's.

IIRC it was the Arcadia group that was most recently in trouble for that. Sweat shops full of workers on student visa's (it is illegal for them to work) being paid less than the minimum wage. In Leicester.

On Primark's business model: They seem to rely on clearing all the stock to keep their gross margins. Sell 75% of stock then reduce price to 50% of original to ensure it clears. good on them.

M&S must have so much wastage and unsold stock.
