I’m sure if there was an asteroid hurtling towards earth they’d be blokes down the pub whining about the fortunes of the football team they happen to support.

Never mind about the murderous mayhem in Syria, never mind about the wider conflict in the Middle East, never mind the starving in Africa or the Euro-crisis; what people were obsessing about & getting enraged about yesterday was that Cardiff City F.C are changing its team colours from blue to red.

Yep never mind the fact that politicians & bankers could very well of caused an economic apocalypse which will affect us all; the Euro-criss wasn’t an important an issue to enrage people enough to phone into talk radio, no the issue enraging people to phone into talk radio was Cardiff City F.C changing its home strip from blue to red.

Often people who obsess about D list celebrities or sports tell me to get a life for worrying about the troubles in the world. I get it that people don’t want to be obsessing over the troubles in the world, I understand people need distractions from the drudgery of life & that’s why millions of people support sports teams. I’m sure supporting a sports team is helpful distraction from the drudgery of life for many; but I have to ask what is more important to get upset about, getting upset at those in charge of a football club changing the team’s strip or getting upset at the politicians & the bankers bringing doom upon us all. I mean what is going to affect the human race to the human race, those in charge of football club changing the team colour or politicians & bankers screwing up the economy? Who needs to get a life, those who obsess about shite of no consequence to the wider populous or those who obsess about stuff which could have some very serious consequences upon the wider populous.

Its been a common thread throughout my writing, the populous being dumbed down as a means of distracting them from those in charge eroding the freedom of us all. Thing is I did ask myself recently whether it might be a good thing that people are better off being distracted from those in charge eroding their freedom? I asked myself whether its better people being distracted, because if people did start obsessing as maybe I have about the troubles in the world they might not come to the same conclusions as I & political radicals have. Political radicals like myself who have been screaming at people to wake up about the slide into tyranny, forget that not everybody views the freedom in the same way. I have to admit that I would definitely prefer xenophobic morons who have no respect for civil liberties were distracted by their football club changing the team strip ir by the antic of D list celebrities. Irony of ironies, maybe it better that Cardiff City F.C is what is important.
