UK - Britain Olympic Gestapo yesterday beat up and pepper sprayed a disabled man on  a mobility scooter after he was hit a glancing blow by an official Olympic car.

The disabled man was arrested along with about 100 others.

The metropolitan police have once again showed that they are incompetent, violent thugs, incapable of intelligent thought when it comes to policing the public.

The recent aquittal of Pc Simon Harwood in the matter of death of Ian Tomlinson, has once again confirmed that the the British police can get away with murder, and as a result they will continue to murder people with impunity.

Report and video in Russia Today

London police used pepper spray and kettling tactics against “Critical Mass” cycle ride participants as the British capital held the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Games. At least 50 people have reportedly been detained.

Scuffles occurred near the Olympic Stadium on the outskirts of the Olympic Park, with participants saying they were being “kettled” or corralled. Some witnesses said police pushed the cyclists aside to get David Beckham through traffic.
A witness video uploaded to YouTube allegedly showed police assaulting and pepper-spraying a disabled man on a tricycle.

The frantaag user who uploaded a similar video has written this account: “In the early stages of the Monthly Critical mass Bike ride a British Transport Police Officer PepperSprayed a Disabled Man in a shoprider who had been apparently hit by a car along with several others [sic].”

The user added that a female police medic attempted to stop the action, but was struck back and the officer sprayed the disabled man and most the crowd. He then whipped out his telescopic truncheon and tried to apply a neck lock on the disabled man using the truncheon.

The disabled man has been arrested. The British Transport Cop was finally led away by some other officers.

"A number of people in breach of regulations imposed on a monthly cycling event have been arrested,"a spokesman for Scotland Yard said.

However there are conflicting reports on the numbers of those arrested. According to some, at least 50 people have been detained and their bicycles loaded on to special buses parked nearby. Others say more than 100 people have been arrested.

The cyclists were members of a monthly cycling event called "Critical Mass", held on the last Friday of every month all around the world. The ride participants usually meet at a set location and time, and travel as a group through city or town streets on bikes.

But a police order had prohibited the London group from traveling into the Olympic Park area in the east of the capital during Friday night's opening ceremony.

The police released a statement in which they said the conditions imposed on the ride had been put in place "to prevent serious disruption to the community and the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games."

Earlier there were reportedly calls on the internet to stage the London ride on July 27 as an anti-Olympics protest.

The Metropolitan Police said they had made arrests for Public Order offences.

1. Suusi, this comment is ridiculous and offensive and once again written with little knowledge of the facts. Originally 200 were arrested, RT today say 50, you now say 11. I have no idea.

The Critical Mass had been told they would not be allowed near the Park during the Olympics, with good reason - why should thousands be inconvenienced for the self agrandisment of a few selfish people. We no longer live in an age of Emily Pankhurst when civil disobedience was the only way to get attention. We have the internet, mobile phones etc etc.

I say to you as I said to Sophia, have some compassion for the millions and millions who will get much pleasure from these games, think of the athletes who have dedicated the last years to exceptional hard work to obtain the right to be at London 2012. You don't know the truth of the police action, nor do I, but I suggest the whole story has been hyped for the political ends.

Just for once, support something good.

2. Thanks for pointing out the factual error. At the time of writing I understood the number of people arrested to be 100 and made a stupid typo. Sorry. I have corrected it now

Regardless of the critical mass action, the Real Questions here are:
  • is it acceptable for a policeman to beat up a elderly and disabled man on a mobility scooter.
  • Is it also acceptable to use pepper spray on the elderly and disabled.

If the elderly gentleman in question was hit a glancing blow by an official car, then obviously the official care was being driven at the very least without due care or attention. The fact that it did not stop and ask if the elderly gentleman was injured or not, and give insurance details are all civil offences.

think of the athletes who have dedicated the last years to exceptional hard work to obtain the right to be at London 2012.

With the IOC being determined to prevent he adoption of a drugs test that detects all known performance enhancing drugs. One has to wonder which they want to protect, the athletes that do not cheat, or the pharmaceutical companies that supply the performance enhancing drugs.

So if the crap is beaten out of innocent people so others can enjoy themselves then that's okay with you?

Essentially that seems to be what you're saying & I don't find that ridiculous, I personally find that sickening!

Maybe not everybody thinks that London 2012 is a 'good' thing.

5. One person maybe was beaten. Slightly over egged Sophia hardly the crap beaten out of the disabled and elderly.  Pepper spray so! -Unlike you two, I am afraid I don't look too sympathetically at professional moaners. They knew the situation - free speech is one thing but upsetting the pleasure of millions is unacceptable to most people,me included. Innocent elderly gentleman or pain in the arse. Why do you two always look for small bad points and miss the bigger picture? Maybe, probably you spend too much time on line. You are as bad as Russia TD - most unreliable news stream in the world - talk to Russians if you don't believe me.
Again Suusi it could possibly have been the guy who was hit, jumped in front of the car - you don't know, I don't know but that would not fit your agenda. I do worry that Sophia needs to get out and make some friends away from politics - everybody is entitled to a rounded life - also makes you a nicer person and less angry. Your last comment proves my point. Sure people are pissed off with disruption, a few with money spent, some to make a political point, difficult for obvious reasons but BBC viewing figs rather suggest that people are not interested. Its exciting. Have a nice day and the sun is shining Sophia

6. Its something of a straw man argument to say that because it might be worse elsewhere in the world then it excuses wrong doings here.

7. I didn't say that - I said YOU should get things in proportion. Democracy is about give and take, sometimes for the greater good people have to give way on an ad hoc basis. Also I am rude enough to suggest that you, especially and possibly Suusi could do with a more rounded interest in life - you are always so angry looking for the bad. This makes you seem as really nasty couple, which genuinely I know you are not. Look sometimes for the positives in life. You will be much happier.

Ah so what you are saying is that the police can beat up an elderly and disabled man and pepper spray him, if it makes the country feel good about it's self.

difficult for obvious reasons but BBC viewing figs rather suggest that people are not interested.

Now this is a very interesting point. if the government was to re introduce public hanging, live and televised. On say the national lottery show, then I bet that the viewing figs would exceed those for the Olympics, the royal weddings and the coronation.

This of course would not make hanging right.
