Afghanistan - A loud explosion heard earlier in the Afghan capital of Kabul is believed to have been created by a car bomb targeting a NATO convoy, sources say.
Fresh reports indicate that the Tuesday morning explosion occurred near a military base, killing over 20, according to Reuters.
Meanwhile, AP has quoted Abdul Ghafor Sayedzada, chief of criminal investigation for the Kabul police, as saying that initial reports on the blast indicated that US vehicles were targeted.
Many Afghan government buildings are also located in that sector of western Kabul.
Interior Ministry spokesman Zemeri Bashary confirmed the blast as well, saying it went off near the Afghan Ministry of Energy and Water.
Earlier reports said the explosion took place near the Afghan Parliament.
It is feared that the blast may have caused high casualties because it occurred in a busy district of the city.
