Libya - Fresh clashes in western Libya have claimed the lives of at least 14 people, leaving up to 80 others wounded.

According to the ruling National Transitional Council (NTC), at least 10 people were killed and 45 injured in the towns of Regdalin and Jamil.

Local officials in Zuwarah also said that four people were killed and 35 others wounded, 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of Tripoli.

The NTC added that the clashes were ongoing and that a delegation had been sent to "calm the situation and solve the problem."

The violence erupted when former rebels from Zuwarah were detained in the town of Jamil.

Following their release by the intervention of interim authorities, armed men from Zuwarah launched an attack.

The recent violence comes days after at least 147 people were killed in tribal clashes in southern Libya.

Months after the fall of the country’s former dictator Muammar Gaddafi, Libya is still the scene of almost daily clashes between squabbling tribes and militias.

The new government has been unable to secure the country as it lacks a viable security force.
