Afghanistan - Heavily armed gunmen have stormed a traffic police headquarters in the troubled eastern Afghanistan, killing 10 people and wounding several others.
Afghan officials say the attack took place on Sunday in the eastern Khost Province near the border with Pakistan, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Several policemen are among those killed. Eight others are said to have been injured in the attack.
Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid has claimed responsibility for the violence.
Afghan security forces say they have now retaken control of the government building after several hours of intense fighting
The renewed violence comes one day after a bombing in Kabul's hospital killed at least six people.
In a separate development, militant attacks and bomb explosion have killed at least three police officers and wounded four others in the western Herat Province.
A blast in the southern city of Kandahar has also left two police officers wounded.
Local officials say the explosion happened at a mosque located next to a police station, causing damage to both buildings.
The security situation continues to deteriorate in Afghanistan with foreign and Afghan forces falling prey to Taliban militants on a near-daily basis.
The Taliban have frequently targeted US-led military bases across Afghanistan over the past months.
The militants have stepped up their violent campaign against foreign and Afghan forces in various parts of the war-ravaged country.
