Okay I did promise I’d not piss on anybody’s enjoyment of the Olympics, but this doesn’t mean I’m not going to criticize some of the police state shenanigans surrounding London hosting the Olympics. For athletes to compete at the Olympics safely I don’t think you really need British army personnel to be searching people attending the Olympics to ensure they’re drinking the official soft drink brand of the Olympics or that people are not overtly displaying a sports brand which isn’t an official sponsor etc.

When Iraq invaded Kuwait fair enough that various government protested, fair enough that various governments protest Israel occupying the West Bank or where ever else, but its funny you never hear any governments protesting the Chinese occupation of Tibet & you won’t be seeing anybody waving the Tibetan flag at the Olympics as a protest. Basically anywhere surrounding any Olympic revenue you aren’t allowed to display any flag of a nation not competing at the Olympics. Hmm the Olympics are taking place on British soil & in Britain I’d like to think we believe in freedom of expression & thus the right to protest, but hey we don’t want to piss off the Chinese for forcefully occupying another country.

As well as only being allowed to drink a certain soft drink brand in & near the Olympic park & only being allowed to wear certain clothing in & near the Olympic park, you won’t be allowed to take a tent into the Olympic park. Olympic organisers were fearful that if people were allowed to take tents in the Olympic park then there might be some kind of Occupy type protest occurring. Why should organisers be scared of an Occupy type protest occurring, its not as if the Occupy movement has brought down the ruling establishment & we in Britain should be setting an example to the rest of the world in that we tolerate dissent. We should be setting an example in Britain that we tolerate protest & dissent & if the Chinese or whoever else don’t like it then they can fuck off!

Okay the Olympics is foremost a festival of sport but everything is political & so couldn’t we use the Olympics to set a better example of liberty to show up those who support tyranny? I don’t think letting the kind of tyranny the corporatist elite would so clearly want to get any kind of foot in the door via the Olympics because it would be a kin to boiling frogs.
