Afghanistan - The ministry of Disinformation and War has announced the death of the 29^th British serviceman, this year, whilst being used as mercenaries for US Oil companies.

The soldier from 3rd Battalion The Rifles has been killed in Afghanistan.

The soldier was on patrol in the Nad 'Ali district of Helmand province when he was killed by enemy action.

The soldiers were part of a Police Advisory Team which had been to the checkpoint to conduct a shura. On leaving, they were engaged by small arms fire from a man wearing an Afghan Police uniform. During this exchange of fire the three soldiers were wounded and, despite receiving first aid at the scene, they died of their injuries.

Next of kin have been informed.

The latest death takes the number of British service personnel who have died in Afghanistan since the start of operations in October 2001 to 423, and the 29^th  of this year.

Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Major Ian Lawrence, said:

"It is with great sadness I must inform you that a soldier from 3rd Battalion The Rifles has died as a result of injuries sustained whilst on patrol in the Nad 'Ali district of Helmand province.

"The thoughts and prayers of all in the Task Force are with his family and friends at this tragic time."
