Ireland - Fears are growing that the the discovery of Dioxins in pig feed contaminated with dioxins up to 200 times the safe level - were supplied to 10 pork farms in the Republic of Ireland and nine pork farms in Northern Ireland.

Police on both sides of the boarder fear that  dissident republicans may have been trying to extort money from the feed manufacturer in order to bolster their funds to continue their low level war with the British government and the Northern Ireland assembly.

Police and health department officials have warned that any Irish pork supplied after September 1st is suspect and can be returned to the place it was purchased from for a refund.

Dioxins are extremely toxic, and carcinogenic by products of the chemical industry. Dioxins first came to public attention because of the genetic defects caused by the defoliant agent orange that the USA sprayed on Vietnam during the Second Indochina War. (Vietnam war to the Americans)
