USA - An American citizen of Pakistani origin has been sentenced to life in prison in New York at a time when anti-US sentiments are already running high in Pakistan.
The court claims Faisal Shahzad tried to detonate a bomb in New York's Time Square on May 1st.
The 30-year-old Shahzad graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a Computer Science degree in 2000 and received an MBA in 2005.
The sentence has infuriated people in Pakistan as they believe the US is deliberately targeting Pakistanis and Muslims.
This is the second court verdict against a person of Pakistani descent.
A few weeks ago an American-educated Pakistani neuroscientist Dr. Aafia Siddiqui was sentenced to prison for 86 years for shooting a US soldier. Evidence has never corroborated Siddiqui's charge.
